The three official languages in Belgium are French, Dutch and German. A language border splits the country into two parts: the French-speaking south and the Dutch-speaking north. There is also a German-speaking area near the German border. Brussels itself is a large bilingual (French-Dutch) area with French speakers being the majority. The other regions speak one language only, but there are a few rare exceptions.
