Liège is located at the entry to the Ardennes. Its geographical location makes it a unique gateway to Europe. A large motorway and railway network lend to its international characteristic. Liège has been promoted as the centre of the Meuse-Rhine Euregio in terms of transport. The Meuse-Rhine Euregio encompasses the regions of Liège, Aachen, Hasselt, Heerlen and Maastricht. It covers an area of 10,500km2 and has a population of 3.7 million inhabitants.



Liège is only 30 kms from the Netherlands and 45 kms from Germany, and is well positioned on the TGV train route London-Brussels-Berlin.

Getting to Liège by car

A comprehensive road and motorway network (E40, E25, E42 and E313) means that Liège is very easy to reach by car from the main Belgian and European destinations.
With its 7-star shaped motorway links, Liège features among the main communication networks in Europe. The Province has 250 kms of motorway. Austria, Italy, Scandinavia and even Eastern European countries can be reached within one day given the smooth traffic flows.
The Cointe motorway tunnel to the south of the city has been called "The safest tunnel in Europe" by 31 European Touring Clubs.


Getting to Liège by train

With 3.454 kilometres of rail tracks, the network of Belgium's national railway company (SNCB) is one of the most comprehensive and modern in Europe.
Liège city has three train stations in the city centre and has capacity for TGV (high-speed trains). Right in the centre of the strategic London-Paris-Berlin triangle, TGV, Thalys and ICE trains now travel 8 times a day to France and up to 10 times a day to Germany, without forgetting the various possible daily connections with London when taking the Eurostar from Brussels.
Liège country also has numerous local train stations.
The people of Liège are proud of the recent relocation of their main train station Guillemins. The station will move to a new building designed using futuristic architecture and directly accessible by the motorway.


Getting to Liège by plane

The national airport is in Zaventem and can be reached by car from Liège in 45 minutes. There are also frequent direct trains connecting Zaventem and Liège.
Liège airport is in Bierset, on the E42 motorway.
Although Liège airport is the first European airport to focus its policy on freight business development (being in the middle of the Golden Triangle Paris-Amsterdam-Frankfurt, which handles 66% of European air freight, 75% if London is added), it also caters for transporting passengers to major tourist destinations.
Road vehicles can easily access the airport given its location at the motorway exit. The airport is also located immediately next to the “Liege Logistics” park, which includes a bi-modal road and rail transport system.
Finally, the splendid passengers terminal offers wonderfull perspectives for business events.


Getting to Liège by boat

Liège port is located in the middle of the large Rhéno-Scaldéo-Mosan basin which has one of the most comprehensive navigation networks in the world. It is directly linked to the ports of Antwerp (via the Albert canal), Rotterdam (via the Meuse river and the Juliana canal) and Dunkirk. The Liège port authorities (P.A.L.) manage 26 different quays in and around the city of Liège. Liège's port system is the 3rd largest European river port. Liège also welcomes yachtsmen who are only too keen to take pleasure in the yacht marina and its famous diver monument.


Public transport in Liège

The Province and City of Liège are covered by an efficient public transport system (TEC). 201 bus routes cover 4,150 kilometres of roads in the Province. More than 83 million journeys are made in this network every year, with two thirds taking place in the urban part of Liège city.
